Our client is looking for a VP of Finance to be responsible for the integrity and performance of the fiscal operations. The ideal candidate would need strong personal accountability for results, strong commitment to teamwork in support of the overall company success, adherence to strong ethical business practice, and values servant leadership. The candidate must be an open, candid communicator and have comfort operating in a start-up environment with an ability to prioritize and drive actions to closure. This role has three key areas of responsibility – fiscal management and reporting, accounting operations, and oversight of all legal, contractual and regulatory agreements.
Responsibilities:
I. Fiscal Management and Reporting
- Budgeting - Develops the company’s fiscal budget and partners with CEO and VP-Operations to establish the Annual Operating Plan (AOP).
- Reporting - Provides reliable, transparent, and timely reporting of financial forecast and performance to plan.
- Performance to Plan - Drives monthly financial reviews and forecasting processes. These include: revenue run-rate and forecasting, P&L variance, and cash flow performance. Provides trend and variance analysis, and partners with leadership team to drive key decisions.
- Partners with the CEO and Strategy Leader to establish non-financial Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for the business (e.g. acquisition rates, market share, product performance, etc.)
- Provides quarterly valuation of the company using common measures to support stock valuation, lending agreements and any other investor relationships.
- Works with the VP-Operations to develop a pricing model that ensures P&L targets are achieved.
- Liaise with lending institutions to ensure that adequate capital is available to meet the company’s needs.
II. Accounting Operations
- Establishes accounting policies and procedures to ensure that fiscal operations are executed in accordance with US GAAP and Sarbanes/Oxley standards.
- Manages weekly accounting operations either directly or via contract. These include the system of accounts, consistent transactional ledger, record keeping, payroll, accounts receivable/payable, and asset management.
- Manages annual tax planning and reporting in compliance with all federal, states, and local regulations.
- Oversees annual year-end audit by external accountants.
- Prepares monthly financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement. Provides weekly cash flow analysis for the business.
III. Legal, Contractual, and Regulatory Agreements
- In partnership with external legal counsel, this role is also responsible for overseeing all legal, contractual, and regulatory relationships and agreements.
- Ensures consistent terms and agreements, common templates, and adherence to all agreements, including: non-disclosure, employment, partnership, marketing, and contractor agreements.
- Defines pricing and partnership contracts and drives follow-up execution with external parties.
- Owns futures relationships with all members of the financial and legal community.
Skills and Expertise:
- Undergraduate degree in finance/accounting, MBA strongly preferred.
- CPA, CFA or equivalent
- 5 to 10 years of progressive responsibility in financial management, at least three of which are at a leadership level.
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Budgeting, establishing annual operating plans, managing performance to plan, and assessing and managing financial risk.
- Analyzing complex financial and legal statements, and providing meaningful guidance for the business.
- Establishing pricing, revenue forecasting, and revenue accounting for web-based businesses.
- Overseeing standard accounting operations, including cashflow management, payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- Representing fiscal performance to outside parties.
